SignalP
Signal peptide prediction tool by DTU. Predicts whether a protein has a signal peptide and its cleavage site.
What It Does
- Predicts signal peptide presence and type (Sec/SPI, Sec/SPII, Tat/SPI)
- Cleavage site position
- Probability scores per residue
- Supports prokaryotes and eukaryotes
How to Use
Web
- Go to https://services.healthtech.dtu.dk/services/SignalP-6.0/
- Paste protein sequence, select Eukarya
- Submit and view results
Verified Status
VERIFIED — used for STRC signal peptide validation. Confirmed signal peptide in STRC N-terminus.
STRC Research Usage
- STRC Signal Peptide Validation — confirmed SP presence and cleavage site at residue ~22
- Important for mini-STRC design: signal peptide must be retained for ER targeting
- E1659A is far from signal peptide (residue 1659 vs SP 1-22) — no SP effect from this variant
