STRCP1 pseudogene
Location. 15q15.3, ~100 kb centromeric to STRC. Identity. 97% at nucleotide, 99% at protein (if expressed). Mostly transcriptionally silent but non-zero expression in some tissues. Diagnostic impact. Short-read NGS cannot reliably distinguish STRC from STRCP1. False-positive rate in diagnostic labs ~10-15%. Long-read, paralog-aware analysis (or targeted long-range PCR) required for confident calls. Therapy design impact. See Paralog Off-Target Rule.
